Hours of Work: negotiable, 0.6 FTE minimum – 0.8 FTE maximum, rising to FT, flexibility considered  

Salary: £48 – £58K per annum pro rata depending on experience and qualifications

Location: Rugby, Warwickshire

Report to: Chief Executive

The Role

As a small but growing Trust, we are currently seeking an experienced strategic Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to join the Learning Today Leading Tomorrow Trust Central Team to support the CEO, Headteachers, Central Team and Trust Board in the efficient and effective delivery of the Trust’s strategic aims and objectives and to provide leadership to the Finance Team across the organisation.

At this time in our development, we are seeking a candidate to pick up from our current CFO who has set up effective and fully operational Trust finance systems. The role offers an attractive blend of strategic and operational commitments. Contributing to high-level strategic vision and high-quality delivery, the role mixes accountability with a genuine shared responsibility across a growing trust with ambitious plans. You will bring in financial expertise and experience to support the Trust Executive Team and the Trust Board. You may be involved in the development of new and transferring school projects. We are open to looking at flexible arrangements to support the successful candidate but the role is expected to grow and could develop into a full-time Finance Director for a high performing CFO. It is an exciting role for someone who likes variety, has high levels of initiative and is keen to be part of an ever-changing educational landscape.

As the CFO, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the Trust finance systems (currently PSFinancials), act as Finance Officer with regards to dealings with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and ensure compliance with Trust Finance Policy & Procedures and ESFA Financial Handbook.

We are open regarding level of experience within education but having a commitment to operating high quality systems and offering responsive and effective support to our schools is essential. An understanding of the regulations that govern Academy Trusts and the expectations of overseeing public funds is desirable

As a member of the Trust Executive Team, you will provide strong vision and strategic direction to Trust staff and lead the financial aspects of the strategic plan and support Headteachers with their School Development Plans.  You will also support Headteachers and the CEO to ensure that all budgetary targets are met by individual academies and the Trust as a whole.

About You

You need to be CCAB Qualified (CIMA/CIPFA/ACCA/ICAEW) and have significant experience of managing, supporting, training, developing and coaching staff, including the assessment and control of work priorities. You will have practical experience of presenting complex issues to Managers and overseeing and completing the budget preparation process and submission of year end statutory accounts and returns. A management qualification, knowledge of academies financial regulations and understanding of ESFA systems is desirable. You will be a strong team player with a good sense of humour and possess the ability to operate calmly under pressure. Occasionally, you will be prepared to work variable hours occasionally to meet the requirements of the post.
